The film buffs amongst us will probably be watching out for the newest releases as quite a few film announcements for 2026 have been made recently.
But, first things first. Here is Camongo’s list of Bengali films released in January 2026 that had us piqued –
Nari Choritro Bejay Jotil (Jan 9, 2026): Starring Ankush Hazra and Oindrila Sen, this film caught our eye with its fun poster. A romantic comedy drama, Nari Choritro Bejay Jotil is directed by Sumeet-Saahil and follows the adventure of the hero, Jhantu, a street-smart young man who lives with his grandmother, mother, and sister and mysteriously gains the ability to read women’s minds! As if trying to comprehend and manage the behaviors of the women of his own household was not enough, now we find Jhantu trying to deal with a multitude of women’s thoughts and emotions. The title shares the name from an eponymous song of the 1981 film, Ogo Bodhu Sundori.

Vijaynagar'er Hirey (Jan 23, 2026): The thriller featuring Prosenjit Chatterjee was initially scheduled to release around Christmas 2025 but later, shifting to another major holiday making it a Netaji Jayanti - Saraswati Puja release. An action- adventure- mystery thriller by Chandrasish Ray, the film is based on an eponymous novel by Sunil Gangopadhyay (1988). We find Kakababu and Shontu embarking on a search for the lost diamond in empire of Vijaynagara, an adventure that is full of mystery, thrills, and very real danger. In this fourth film in SVF’s Kakababu franchisee, we see Prosenjit Chatterjee playing Kakababu and Aryann Bhowmik the role of Shontu once again. Major parts of the film were shot in Bengaluru and Hampi.

Bhanupriya Bhooter Hotel (Jan 23, 2026): This horror-comedy produced by Windows (Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee) features Mimi Chakraborty, Soham Majumdar, Swastika Dutta, Bonny Sengupta and others. Bhanupriya Hotel is set amongst the picturesque mountains and reopens in season to welcome its set of guests who arrive for some respite, peace, and quiet. Far from their aspirations, they are faced with spirits who have taken up residence in that hotel. What happens next? How do the living beings deal with the otherworldly beings that have claimed their ‘rightful’ place in the hotel? It is a hilarious mix of chaos and comedy but not without a few thrills too. Bhanupriya Bhooter Hotel is directed by Aritra Mukherjee.

Hok Kolorob (Jan 23, 2026): Directed by Raj Chakraborty, this film is a social drama. The film’s story is inspired by a real-life incident in which a young and bright fresher in a city university hostel is subjected to ragging that allegedly leads to his death. The film shines the light on sensitive contemporary issues and compels us to open individual debates on students’ abuse and accountability. Written and directed by Raj Chakraborty, Hok Kolorob features Saswata Chatterjee in the lead role as Khudiram Chaki. The younger actors in the cast shine with conviction.
