
July is significant in India because it is closely interwoven with monsoons and romance. And we’re all suckers for love and romance, right? As Tara Sutaria recently said in podcast,” I love ‘love’. It is the best feeling ever. I don’t think I can compare any other experience in the world to that feeling…Love is the thing, man. Like, nothing greater. No career, no nothing beats love. And anybody that says otherwise has not been in it.” Well, that’s quite a heavyweight endorsement of the emotion.
Films in India have forever depicted monsoon as the season to fall in love, be with your loved one, or miss your love one deeply if the person is away. In short, it’s all about ‘love’.
While filling ourselves up with mush, let’s have a look at all the new Tollywood films that hit the big screen in July’25. Here’s Camongo’s list –
Madam Sengupta – A crime thriller in which a famous cartoonist embarks on a mission to track her daughter’s killer and stumbles upon a trail of murders that lead her to her ex-husband. His play that has been banned threatens to expose Kolkata’s darkest secrets. Rituparna Sengupta, Rahul Bose, Kaushik Sen, Paran Bandhopadhyay, Kharaj Mukherjee, Subrat Dutta, and Ananya Chatterjee play important protagonists in this film by Sayantan Ghosal. Madam Sengupta has music by Anupam Roy.

Putulnacher Itikatha – Shashi, who is a city doctor goes back to his native village for a short visit. A typical Bengal village, the place seemingly is stuck in time where the inhabitants lead a backward life. Quite in an unplanned way, Shashi finds himself getting more and more involved in the villagers’ lives and issues and his stay keeps stretching. The film stars Abir Chatterjee and Jaya Ahsan in lead roles. Dhritiman Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee, Ananya Chatterjee, Shantilal Mukherjee, and Surangana Bandyopadhyay play other important roles. The film’s director is Suman Mukhopadhyay who has also written the screenplay. It is produced by Samiran Das with music by Prabuddha Banerjee.

Dear Maa – Dear Maa is a touching tale of motherhood seen through the prism of adoption, love, and responsibility. At the film’s core is the disappearance of a young adolescent girl, an event that throws the structured pattern of time out of gear as her mother embarks on a desperate search for her child. We watch boundaries of past and present blur as hidden truths surface, revealing that identity is never a matter of inheritance alone but a sensitive and complex journey of evolving. Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and produced by Aashish Singh, the film stars Jaya Ahsan, Saswata Chatterjee, Dhritiman Chatterjee, and others. The music is by Bickram Ghosh.

Goodbye Mountain – Sometimes distance and time cannot part two souls that beat in unison. In this bittersweet romantic drama, two souls come together after 22 years, seamlessly matching frequencies as if they had always been together. In Goodbye Mountain, we see them living peacefully in a picturesque and serene bungalow among the mountains. But how long will the charmed life carry on? One of them is terminally ill, while the other’s spouse arrives on the scene. The fragile balance is broken up. Goodbye Mountain stars Rituparna Sengupta, Indraneil Sengupta, Ananya Sengupta and others. It is directed by Indrasis Acharya and produced by N.K. Mohamed. The music is by Ranajoy Bhattacharya.
